Campaign Impact: Banned Ad fuels National Press, Mobile Billboards
When the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority blocked ads targeting Senator Scott Brown for accepting dirty energy money and voting to gut the Clean Air Act, Bostonians took to the streets wheeling the posters by bike and getting attention from major news outlets and compelling politicians to admonish the MBTA for censoring of the ad.
This creative response sparked stories in the Boston Herald, The Hill, Grist, Huffington Post, Boston Globe, and compelled US Senate candidate Bob Massey to write a letter to the MBTA, admonishing their censorship of the ad.
About This Campaign
When Senators Sherrod and Scott Brown accepted millions from dirty energy corporations and then voted to gut the Clean Air Act, a grassroots network of Massachusetts and Ohio voters decided to connect the dots for their neighbors with ads on Cleveland pedicabs and in the Boston T- right in the backyards of the state buildings.
This campaign successfully raised $9967 from 250 donors, but when this ad was banned by the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority for its "political stance", 350.org took the ads to the streets of Boston using bike-billboards. Read more about what transpired here. The Banned in Boston rally was held July 7, 2011. During rush hour, bikers toting banned ads rode by Senator Brown's office, accompanied by a Scott Brown puppet.
